Miss Havisham's expectations have a lot to do with love, and heartbreak. Pip's expectations is to become a wealthy and educated gentlemen.. All three of the main characters, Pip, Estella, and Miss Havisham had navigated their selves to live up to their dreams or expectations.Pip gains sudden expectations to be an educated gentleman and wishes to marry Estella. It is these expectations that cause a change in his character and over shadows his actions though the book. Pip learns to use people in order to realise his great expectations. The first person to fall victim to his selfishness is Biddy.
Estella is one of the first major characters whom Pip encounters. Despite her individual beauty which Pip admires vastly, she portrays herself to be a scornful, outspoken and cruel individual, who was adopted and raised by Miss Havisham, to be an enemy to man. Estella’s influence traps Pip into a corner.For much of Great Expectations, Pip seems to believe in a stark division between good and evil, and he tends to classify people and situations as belonging to one extreme or the other: for instance, despite their respective complexities, he believes that Estella is good and the convict is evil. Yet, both socially and morally, Pip himself is often caught between extremes; his own situation.
Pip thinks he is in love, but in my paper I investigate if it’s a real desire of infatuation for Estella, or just a first big crush which lasted through out his teenage years. Pip’s love for Estella is usually a one-way street, at least in his eyes. From the moment Pip meets her, he feels an attraction towards her.
